NYC Joins Day of Protest, Hundreds of Cities Worldwide to Make #GlobalNoise
New York — This weekend Occupy Wall Street (OWS) groups join a global day of potbanging-protest (aka Casseroles March, named after the Quebec Student Debt protests) targeting the homes, corporate lobbies and leisure locales of the 1% to make some noise. The protests will spotlight the huge and growing debts ordinary people struggle under – millions of us have been seduced into taking on unmanageable mortgages, credit cards, student loans, and more by a corrupt financial system.
On October 13 debt protests will ring out around the world, in hundreds of cities, under the banner of “Global Noise” and the global week of action against debt and social injustice. See full list here.
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, October 13 (#13O), Columbus Circle
4pm: Teach-ins and community gathering with Occupy Town Square and the widely popular Free University. Open to the public.
6pm: Global Noise Assembly, Debt Burn, and March with Strike Debt. Individuals will share their stories of debt and burn their debt notices (student loan notices, underwater mortgage loan papers, credit card bills) as an act of resistance to a culture of debt. Highly visual + great photo opps.
